New Amex Offer at the Gap + a Doubling Win with GapCash

This post may contain affiliate links from our advertising partners, such as American Express. Read my Advertiser Disclosure policy here. Additionally, some of the offers on this page may no longer be available through Deals We Like.

American Express came out with a new Amex Offer yesterday where you get a $25 statement credit with a $75+ purchase at the Gap. This promotion is also available via Twitter (#AmexGap) so everyone is eligible and you can maximize this offer by syncing all your American Express credit cards. This is valid for in-store purchases only through September 7, 2015.

On top of saving 34% off your purchase with this offer, Gap is also running their GapCash promotion, where you’ll earn a certificate to use at a future time depending on how much you spend now. So if you spend $75 on the button, you’ll earn a $25 certificate to use. This certificate gives you $25 off a $50 purchase or more during the week of September 16 through September 21.

With the two promotions combined, you can ultimately end up purchasing $125 worth of clothes and spend $75, which is ultimately giving you 40% off your purchase! Of course the Amex Offer can be used IN ADDITION to any current sales since it is just a statement credit and not an offer that Gap punches in at the store.

To enroll in the Gap Amex Statement Credit Offer:

  • Sync your American Express credit card to Twitter (you can do that here). If you are not sure which card is currently synced with your account, you can unsync and then re-sync. Tweet #AmexGap

To Maximize this Offer

You can purchase Gap gift cards in store in $75 increments to maximize on this offer. If you have many Amex credit cards this allows to you make a larger purchase during this time or even after the offer is over. You can also use Gap gift cards at Banana Republic, Old Navy, and Athleta. So even though the terms and conditions state that those stores are excluded, you can actually save money at those stores by going the roundabout gift card route. Just remember though, purchasing gift cards will not get your GapCash, but when you go to use the gift card on a purchase by September 7, 2015, you will receive the GapCash.

Registering Multiple Cards to Twitter

To do this, I recommend creating a different Twitter account for each American Express credit card you have. While it takes some time to set this up initially, once it is done it will be easy to take advantage of all the Amex Offers via Twitter promotions going forward. I typically name my Twitter accounts to align with the card and cardholder, for example: “AmexSPGJen”, “AmexHiltonAdam”, “AmexSPGMom”, etc. You can read more about registering for Amex Offers with Twitter here.

Of course, you can always register through your account (if it shows up), but I find Twitter to be much easier. With, if you have multiple credit cards in one account, you’ll need to use the multiple browser trick to register them all. Make sure to read this post first, before saving the offer to your card.

To learn more about American Express Offers:

Since I show at the Gap often for clothes for my two-year old, this offer will come in quite handy! Remember, these promotions are only valuable to those with an American Express card (no Corporate or prepaid cards) and is only a one-time statement credit. Serve and Bluebird cards are now eligible, but Target REDCard is not. There are also limits to the number of people who can register so I suggest doing it now!

You can check out all the other current Amex Offers here. Enjoy!

  1. You mention that the purchase of gift cards are not allowed for this promotion then you say that the best way to maximize the promotion is to buy gift cards. Can you please clarify?

    • @Mark – sorry for the confusion. I updated the post so hopefully it reads better. Purchasing $75 in gift cards WILL trigger the statement credit but WILL NOT trigger the GapCash.
