One Last Reminder… Today is Small Business Saturday – Free $25 Credit for Amex Card Holders

This post may contain affiliate links from our advertising partners. Read my Advertiser Disclosure policy here. Additionally, some of the offers on this page may no longer be available through Deals We Like.

UPDATE: No new registrations are now eligible. The promotion has met its number of registrations.

I’ve posted on this a few times (prior blog post), but just wanted to remind you all that today, November 26th is Small Business Saturday. In a nutshell, this allows you to receive a $25 statement credit for a $25+ purchase at a participating small business with your American Express card. You can only receive one credit per American Express card, but there is no limit to the number of cards you can register.

To qualify for the promotion you must:

  1. Register for this promotion.
  2. Search to see the participating small businesses in your location. Once on the Facebook page, click the + sign next to “See where you can shop to earn your $25 statement credit,” enter your zip code,  and click “Go.”
  3. Use your American Express credit card on November 26 for a $25 or more purchase. If you have multiple Amex cards and an expensive purchase (i.e., restaurant bill), you can always break up your purchase into multiple transactions – this will give you a $25 statement credit on EACH card.

Things to know:

  1. Corporate cards are not eligible.
  2. You do not have to use your credit card in a local area matching your billing address.
  3. It is still unclear if additional registered cards on the same account will qualify – my gut instinct is no, but you never know!
  4. You do not need to submit any additional documentation to get the credit, this should automatically apply to your statement. Just make sure to check your bill to ensure you received the credit.

Enjoy your free $25 (if not more for multiple Amex cards)! I will be using mine at a nice restaurant in Boston with my husband (we will have a total of $100 FREE)!

“Businesses that participate” means that the store owner pays some or all of the rebate to your card. Depending on markup and the amount of the purchase, it is possible that your well intentioned purchase will cost them money.

If you really want to support a small business, shop there and pay cash. Then they get to keep all of the profit.

And, to indicate the level at which AmEx really wants you to be part of this “small business saturday”, their webpage on facebook where you were able to see which merchants participated in the program and also for latecomers to register is on this very saturday “unavailable”. Just on the day when people need to know where to spend the money and get a credit- now, unless they checked in advance or the store posted they are participating, they are out of luck!! This shows once again, after the points fiasco experienced by many earlier this year, and my own personal case where they sent me a promo but said they could not apply it, that amex is the number one card to get rid of when the year is up. This coming from a member for over 20 years- they could not care less and i salute them with a refusal to renew my membership.

did this today, my friend got a confirmation less than ten minutes after he bought something that fulfilled the 25 dollar mark, and as for me, i did not receive any emails after i did the same at another participating merchant. let’s see if amex is going to do a number on me again- fortunately i saved my email where it said i had registered. who knows? amex promotions are increasingly suspect…i wouldn’t be surprised if they stiffed me again

As long as cards on the same account have different number they qualify. At least they did for me and my wife.
