As a rule of thumb, I always suggest steering away from purchasing points. However, there are some scenarios where if you are looking to book a hotel room in the near future, purchasing points can actually be cheaper than paying the lowest rate possible. In fact, right now there are four different hotels offering bonus points for purchasing points. If you are looking to stay at a Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, or Choice property there is the possibility that purchasing points with these promotions could possibly save you money.

Hilton

Right now you can purchase Hilton points with a 100% bonus. You must purchase a minimum of 10,000 points to receive the bonus points. This promotion expires February 26, 2019.

Hyatt

With this offer, you’ll receive a 30% bonus on points purchased. While this is a decent offer, throughout the year we do see offers sometimes as high as a 40% bonus. This promotion expires February 22, 2019.

IHG

Currently you can purchase points with a 75% bonus which is by no means as good as the 100% bonus offer that comes along quite often. Unfortunately though, this promotion is only valid for those who have the IHG Mastercard and you must purchase a minimum of 20,000 points. This promotion expires February 28, 2019.

Choice Hotels

With this promotion you’ll receive a 30% discount when purchasing points. I actually find purchasing Choice points one of the best ways to save money at not only Choice properties, but also their Bluegreen Vacation Resorts. This promotion expires February 18, 2019.

Overall…

Do the math to see if purchasing points will in fact save you money. I’ve had a few scenarios where I’ve saved quite a bit of money by purchasing points, but again, do not just purchase points simply because there is a “deal” going on.

Too bad all these promotions have already expired. Can you please let me know when such promotions are going to be available again? I’d really appreciate your help if you let me know that!
