Travel for Less: 30% Discount on Purchasing Choice Privileges Points

Choice Hotels is running a promotion where if you purchase Choice Privilege points you’ll receive a 30% discount. All you have to do is purchase at least 5,000 points by May 27, 2019 and the discount is yours.

Keep in mind that this is not the best offer we’ve seen from the Choice Privileges program. The typical offer is 30-40% discount, although earlier this year we saw their highest ever 50% discount offer. And an even better offer is when you purchase them during the Daily Getaways. Of course these packages are sold out, but something good to keep in mind for next year.

This is actually one of those promotions where you could actually save a ton of money by purchasing points vs. paying the lowest rate. For example, I recently became away of Choice’s vacation club partnership with Bluegreen Vacation. There is a great property right near Loon Mountain which is an extremely family friendly ski mountain in New Hampshire. During this past Winter season this property only costs 16,000 points a night—and if available, you can even book a 2-bedroom suite for the same amount of points!

The South Mountain Resort near Loon Mountain is part of the Ascend collection where you can use your Choice points!

During peak dates you could easily pay over $250 for a standard room and around $330 for a two-bedroom suite.

Or, you can just redeem 16,000 points which you can purchase for $123.20.

Choice also upped the number of points you can purchase from them to 120,000 points per year. (It previously was 50,000 points). This is huge as it could theoretically allow you to purchase an entire vacation at a discount.

For example, if you are looking to stay in Cape Cod this summer, you can stay at Bluegreen Vacations The Soundings for 30,000 points a night. This will lock you into a 2-bedroom suite, if available. This is an awesome resort and purchasing 120,000 points will cost you $924. To stay in an ideal part of Cape Cod for less than $1,000 for 3 nights in a 2-bedroom suite is a pretty good deal.

I definitely do not recommend purchasing points speculatively as you never know how the program will change. Choice Hotels also does not have an award chart, so the number of points required just later this year is still unknown for many properties. With the Choice program you can also only book a hotel 100 days out when using points. Do the math and see if purchasing points will save you money!
