Purchase Hilton Points with up to a 100% Bonus – Great Way to Travel for Less!

Through December 18, 2018, you can purchase Hilton Honors points with up to a 100% bonus. It looks like your bonus offer will vary and from the reports I’ve seen you’ll receive either an 80% bonus or a 100% bonus — clearly a much better opportunity for those that received the 100% offer! For many expensive properties, think Maldives, or low end properties with ridiculously high nightly rates, do the math and see if purchasing points will save you money!

I was only targeted for the 80% offer

Hilton allows you to purchase up to 80,000 points per account per calendar year. Although it looks like some accounts are actually able to purchase up to 160,000 points! So with this promotion, you can ultimately get up to 320,000 points depending on your offer. If you received the 100% offer, you are purchasing points at .5 cents per point, which is one heck of a deal. While Hilton runs 80% bonus offers pretty often, the 100% offer only comes around once or twice a year. If you are looking to purchase points with the 100% bonus offer, but you weren’t targeted, see if a friend or family member received the offer as Hilton now allows you to pool your points.

As previously mentioned, this offer is good for some, but I definitely do not suggest purchasing points speculatively. I suggest checking out to see if the cost of purchasing points for a redemption is cheaper then paying cash at the hotel. Remember, last year Hilton revamped their entire approach to redeeming points so the number of points you’ll use is loosely tied to the price of the room if you were to pay for it. The higher the price, the more points it will require, although it will not go above the maximum number of points required for that category (or at least the category it used to be).

For example, if you are looking to go to the Maldives in May (I just picked a random date), it will cost you approximately $600/night for a pre-paid room, or you can redeem 95,000 points. The cost to purchase those points will “only†cost you $480. So definitely a nice savings, and remember, if you have Hilton status (Silver, Gold, or Diamond) get the 5th night free on an award redemptions. Although there are times those rooms in the Maldives can be in the thousands of dollars. You can learn more about earning status from this prior blog post – all Hilton credit cards also give you status as long as you are a cardmember!

I will personally be sitting this one out. I do not have a specific need for Hilton points and I am really not looking to collect more as this time. But for those that have a specific need and received the 1005 offer, enjoy this promotion!
