InterContinental Hotels Group is offering a 100% bonus for those looking to purchase points. With this bonus you must purchase at least 5,000 points and the maximum you can purchase per calendar year is 100,000 points per account. Up until now you could only purchase up to 60,000 points per calendar year, but IHG just upped that limit to 100,000 points. That means with this bonus you can actually get up to 200,000 points! This promotion goes through October 31, 2018. This is actually a pretty common promotion with IHG and definitely worthwhile if you have an upcoming stay at any of the properties under the IHG umbrella.
Let’s assume you are planning to purchase the maximum of 100,000 points where every 1,000 points costs $10.00. With the bonus offer you will essentially be purchasing points at .5 cents per point. This is actually a great value to purchase points, and much better then the .7 cents per point roundabout method.
Example of where this is a good deal
Let’s say you were to purchase 60,000 points (thus giving you 120,000 points), it would cost you $600. This will get you 3 free nights at the Holiday Inn Resort in Aruba (right on the beach!). This property is 40,000 points a night – which means you can ultimately stay at this hotel for $200.00 a night during peak times, assuming available.
Also, IHG also offers Point Break hotels where there is an entire list of hotels that only cost 5,000-15,000 points a night! It is a great opportunity to stay for cheap if there is a hotel on the list that you are looking to stay at. If you purchase enough points to get the 100% bonus, you’ll essentially be able to redeem a 5,0000 point Point Break hotel for $25.00, and that includes taxes!
However, like all point offers, I do not suggest purchasing speculatively. Programs can devalue and you do not want to be stuck with points that you ultimately do not need. You can purchase points here.
