Purchase IHG Points with a 80% Bonus

InterContinental Hotels Group is offering an 80% bonus for those looking to purchase points. While this could be a good opportunity if you have an immediate need, there are many times throughout the year where you can actually get a 100% bonus, so this is by far not the best deal you’ll find with IHG. And with the Daily Getaways starting next month, my best guess says we’ll see a 100% offer from IHG as well. This promotion goes through May 1, 2019.

Let’s assume you are planning to purchase the maximum of 100,000 points where every 1,000 points costs $10.00. With the bonus offer you will essentially be purchasing points at .55 cents per point. This is definitely much better then the .7 cents per point roundabout method so a great opportunity if you have an immediate need were purchasing points is less than paying the lowest available rate, but if you can hold off, I assume we will see another 100% bonus offer soon.

Example of where this is a good deal

If you are looking to hit the Caribbean, the Holiday Inn Resort in Aruba is a great deal when redeeming points. This property is right on Palm Beach and is definitely a resort property. This hotel typically goes for 40,000 IHG points a night, so if you purchase 160,000 points that will get you 4 free nights — for a total cost of $890. During peak times, you most likely will never be able to get this property for $220 a night including all taxes and fees.

Now, if you have the IHG Premier Rewards Credit Card, when you use your points for a free night award, you’ll receive your 4th night free, which means you can actually stay 5 nights at this property with your purchased points, bringing your cost down to just $178 per night! Or, if you really just want to stay four nights you can purchase 120,000 points for $670. This is by far the lowest rate at only $167.50 per night! Even during off-peak dates finding a rate that low (including the high Aruba taxes) will be hard.

However, like all point offers, I do not suggest purchasing speculatively. Programs can devalue and you do not want to be stuck with points that you ultimately do not need. You can purchase points here.
