Southwest just launched an awesome promotion for those who have the Southwest credit card. Over the summer, between July 1 and Oct. 31, 2019, you’ll earn a 25% bonus on all points earned from using your Southwest credit credit card — must earn a minimum of 10,000 points for the bonus to kick in and can earn a maximum of 10,000 bonus points. You can register for this promotion on your Southwest Rapid Rewards promotion page. (Note: This promotion is targeted).
Anything that pops up in your Rapid Rewards account as “Credit Card” will count. The loophole with this is that if your anniversary credit card bonus happens to post during these four months, those points should also receive the 25% bonus. In the past, when they post to your account it is not posted as any sort of bonus, but just clumped in with your regular monthly points earned from that particular credit card. The credit cards anniversary benefit range from 3,000-7,500 points (depending on the card you have), so you are looking at an extra 750 to 1,875 points.
Typically with all four Southwest credit cards, you earn 2 points per dollar spent on Southwest purchases (as well as Rapid Rewards hotel and car rental partner purchases) and 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases. If you are eligible for this promotion, this means you’ll earn 2.5 points per dollar on Southwest purchases and then 1.25 points on everything else. I personally will be using Plastiq a bunch this summer to help earn the Southwest Companion Pass via credit card spend, so this will help significantly. (The terms include that the bonus points will count towards the pass, which is awesome).
