Southwest just announced their 5th new city for their Hawiian service. At some time in the future, you will be able to fly to Hilo, Hawaii. Unfortunately the exact date is still undetermined, but this is definitely a great enhancement.
Southwest already flies to Maui (OGG) and Honolulu (HNL). Kona (KOA) is actually scheduled to start tomorrow! And Kauai (LIH) is coming soon! With the announcement of Hilo (ITO) that will actually be the second destination on the Big Island.
I’ll definitely be following the progress of this new route. I am also hoping that Southwest will continue to expand their Hawaii service from the US to open up a ton of new options. Hopefully we will see some great fare sales once schedules are released and it will allow you to use your Southwest Companion Pass.
