A few weeks ago, Amazon came out with probably their best promotion yet: Use just 1 Amex Membership Reward point and receive a 20% discount on every order you place, up to $50 in savings. Although there was one big issue with this promotion — it was targeted. And I unfortunately was not one of the lucky once to be eligible for this promotion. Since the promotion launched, I’ve been going back to their promotional page on a daily basis to see if by some chance Amazon decided to extend the promotion my way. Well, it looks like today was my lucky day and I am now targeted! This means through Amazon Prime Day (11:59pm PT on July 16, 2019) as long as I apply just 1 Amex Membership Reward point as a form of payment, I’ll receive up to $50 in savings. A great deal, especially since 3rd party merchant gift cards apply.

If you were not originally targeted, I highly suggest checking again. If you still are not eligible, I suggest removing your Amex Membership Reward card as a form of payment from your Amazon account and then adding it back in. Once you do that, make sure to re-link your credit card to your Amazon account.

Steps to take advantage:

  • If you haven’t already linked your American Express card to your Amazon account, you can do that here.
  • Shop at Amazon.com and add up to $250 worth of products (which must be sold and shipped by Amazon.com) to your Shopping card. Many merchant gift cards work as well as Amazon gift cards, so you can go ahead and search for merchant gift cards here.
  • On the payment page, select your linked Membership Rewards earning credit card. At the bottom of the payment page you’ll see all your linked accounts where you can use points (Chase and Amex). Select your American Express Membership Rewards Points account and enter the number of points you want to use towards your purchase. Since I do not like redeeming my points at Amazon (due to the low redemption value), I entered just 1 cent which means 1 point will be applied. For the promotion to apply, the minimum amount required is only 1 point! Do not do full points as it is not a good value!
  • On the checkout page, you’ll see the 1 point applied and the 20% taken off. No promotion code needed!

Overall…

This is an awesome promotion and a great way to save even more money at Amazon — you can use it towards a 3rd party merchant gift card or just a regular purchase from Amazon. Purchasing Amazon gift cards will not work.

Since this promotion doesn’t require a coupon code, you are also able to combine it with any codes that surface. The best is when there is additional savings on a particular item due to a “Deal of the Day” discount, the 20% off comes off of the original price, not the sale price, which is even more amazing! Just remember to activate the promotion and apply 1 Membership Reward point at checkout. Enjoy your discounted Amazon purchase!
