Just a few days ago, Vail Resorts announced that they were temporarily suspending all operations between March 15-22 and will re-evaluate at the end of the week. Well, it looks like their final decision has come early and they just announced that they will officially be shutting down operations for the rest of the season.
I personally am not surprised about this, especially since most other mountain groups, including Alterra Mountains have already closed for the season. (Although Alterra Mountain is closed indefinitely — they are not officially “closed for the season”).
They will reimburse all lift ticket and pre-paid lodging cost, but as of now, there is no reimbursement for those who purchased the Epic Pass. Their site states: “Pursuant to the terms of all season pass and Epic Day Pass products, they are non-refundable and non-transferable to another season. We will be reviewing these policies and providing any updated guidance in the coming weeks.” Fingers crossed they truly do update these policies and offer something for their pass holders.
For those who were not able to get in skiing this year, fingers crossed for an awesome ski season next year. You also might want to hold off on purchasing next year’s Epic Pass for now, until we see if Vail Resorts will in fact offer something for pass holders.
Note: Vail Resorts does state that there is a change Breckenridge, Heavenly and Whistler Blackcomb would open at a later date depending on the current Coronavirus situation and weather conditions.

There is some important information missing from this message. Vail Resorts is leaving open the possibility of reopening three resorts: Breckenridge, Heavenly and Whistler. They are higher in elevation, so typically stay open in the late season.
Also, I do not find confirmation that Alterra Mountain Resorts (Squaw Valley, Aspen, Steamboat, Mammoth) are closed for the season. Just that they are closed until further notice. Mammoth was open until mid-July last year, so it is entirely possible that there could still be good ski conditions after the lockdowns are over.
