Receive a Complimentary Drink and Snack for AA Executive Platinum Members

It was always a non-publicized perk that American Airline Executive Platinum members can get a free drink and snack on all American Airline and American Eagle flights (assuming no upgrades available).

I’ve written about this before, but I wanted to point out that American has now formalized this perk and made it official by sending out an email last week (thanks reader Scott for sending my way!). Per the email and the linked webpage,

“AAdvantage Executive Platinum and ConciergeKey members can enjoy a complimentary beverage from our standard alcoholic selections as well as one of our snacks or meals, where available, when flying in the Main Cabin onboarding American Airlines and American Eagle.”

a glass of wine and food

From my experience, you typically need to let the flight attendant know of your status and your eligibility to receive this perk. All you need to do is show your boarding pass (or member card) that shows your Executive Platinum status or your ConciergeKey membership.

While it is clearly must better up in business/first while having this status, at least this is a small consolation!

I really hope UA matches this benefit for 1Ks. As much as I think AA is going to have a rude awakening when it finally resolves its bankruptcy proceedings, they are showing how a few small benefits here and there can really add up to a better experience for elites.

It seems that, as fast as UA takes away little perks for its elites, AA is adding them. Time for a switch of loyalty soon, I think.

Just FYI, the FA’s are using the manifests a whole lot more now. I’ve not been asked for my BP the last few times I’ve stood by for an earlier flight and ended up in coach.

. . . some of the bloggers sound like they work for AA! Yeah you get a complimentary food item and drink when in coach, but that’s no consolation for not being upgraded, which seems to becoming a more frequent occurrence! From what I hear, UA is worse, but AA is clearly not what is was for Executive Platinum members just a few years ago.

I’m delighted to report that British Airways’ top-tier Gold members also this benefit, thanks to them appearing as Executive Platinum to the crew!

For those that might find it useful, I’ve written about it here: http://invol-upgrade.com/flights/british-airways/free-food-drink-in-american-economy-for-british-airways-gold-members/
