Reminder: Today is the last day to get a $5 statement credit when spending $25+ at a participating restaurant week restaurant. If you are not actually planning on eating at that restaurant today, you can just purchase a $25 gift card to use at a future time!
New York City’s restaurant week is returning February 17 through March 7. While I am actually not a huge restaurant week person, it is a great opportunity to eat at a high-end NYC restaurant for cheap (relatively speaking for these NYC restaurants). You can get a 3-course meal for $25.00 during lunch or $38.00 during dinner. Saturdays are excluded and not all restaurants participate on Sundays. You can check out all the participating restaurants here.
To make your bill slightly cheaper, American Express is offering a way to get a $5 statement credit with a $25+ purchase at participating NYC restaurants (those that participate in Restaurant Week). The good thing is that you’ll get $5 off every time you eat at one of these restaurants during these dates – it is not a one time thing like many other Amex statement credit offers. You must, however, register your American Express card prior to eating out – the terms also state that registration is limited, so make sure to register soon even if you aren’t 100% sure if you’ll need it.
If this is anything like last year (which I am sure it is), you do not need to order off the Restaurant Week menu – having a $25+ transaction will simply generate the statement credit. This should also work for purchasing gift cards at the restaurant, so you can purchase a certificate now for eating out another time.
The terms also state you can only register one Amex card for this card, but if you are dinning out with a significant other or friend who has an Amex card, make sure to do multiple transactions so you maximize the $5 credit. For now though, you might as well attempt to register multiple cards and then do $25 transactions at the restaurant to see if you can get the $5 credit on each registered card. Since dinner is $38, chances are with a drink, tip, and tax you’ll hit the $50 mark per so make sure to put $25 on each of your registered cards (assuming you have at least 2 amex cards).
