Back in November I wrote about a pretty decent Wyndham promotion where if you complete three stays you can earn a total of 15,000 bonus points which will get you a free night at any Wyndham property. Although I’ve been taking advantage of many Wyndham promotions that earn you a free night, I did not take part in this particular offer. This offer required you to complete three stays while many other promotions over the past year only required two stays – I did take part in those promotions!
With this promotion you had to book your stays by January 31, 2018, although you had until February 28, 2018 to actually complete your stay. Unfortunately though, it seems like Wyndham changed the terms at some point during the promotion where you actually had to book your stay by January 18, 2018 NOT January 31, 2018. According to The Gate, Wyndham was less then helpful to those that got burned by the “book by” date changing (with no announcement). Many travelers (myself included) some times select a certain property to stay at based on the current hotel promotion. To not earn the bonus points being offered is completely dishonest in my opinion.
Unfortunately though, I am absolutely not surprised by this. Wyndham has been known to change promotions in the past. About 5-6 years ago Wyndham pulled a promotion within a few weeks of it being announced but ultimately honored it for those who had already booked their reservation. To get this situation resolved, I remember spending hours on the phone with a supervisor at Wyndham. And even this past year Wyndham offered a promotion where they’d match the number of points you donate from your Starwood account. I do not even believe this promotion lasted more then 24 hours before they pulled it.
Wyndham states that the stay 3 times, earn 1 free promotion was just too popular and too generous that they stopped it early. Funny enough though, only a few weeks later they announced a promotion where you could earn 1 free night after just 2 stays! So not sure why they’d pull a promotion early (with no announcement) to then put together an even better offer… While I am not a huge Wyndham person, I do like taking advantage of these offers. They are a cheap way to stay at expensive properties. And while there are not a ton of “aspirational” Wyndham properties, there are definitely enough that make these offers worthwhile.
I have already reached out to my Wyndham contact so will report back if I hear anything. Did you get burned by Wyndham?
