Hyatt is quickly becoming my favorite hotel chain at the moment. Even with my Titanium Lifetime status at Marriott, Hyatt has fully won me over. While I am still mourning the loss of my Hyatt Globalist status (which just expired in February), my husband is now on the hunt to pick up Globalist status in his account. Fortunately, he travels a good amount for work and combined with credit card spend with the World of Hyatt Credit Card (every $5k spent earns 2 nights towards status), we should not have a problem re-gaining our beloved Hyatt Globalist status this year, especially with a status match opportunity!

Although as luck has it, my husband just received an email Hyatt. He has an upcoming stay and the sales manager reached out to him. He works for a top corporate company and the Hyatt employee I am assuming noticed the corporate code being used. They reached out to him with some questions and with the opportunity to fast track to Globalist status. Those are the types of emails I pray for on a daily basis!

Status Terms

With this status challenge, my husband will automatically receive Hyatt Explorist status for the next 90 days. This is perfect since he is sadly a low level Discoverist. He will then have the chance to maintain status through February 2021.

  • Explorist status: Stay 10 nights within 90 days
  • Globalist status: Stay 20 nights within 90 days

While my husband will absolutely meet the 10 night threshold, he most likely will not hit the Globalist status level with this challenge. And quite honestly, I really do not want him to be away from home that much over the next three months anyways.

But I am okay if he doesn’t earn Globalist status via a challenge. I actually want him to earn this top tier status the hard way. With the Hyatt program, there are many benefits you receive as a Globalist member, but you’ll only receive them by actually staying the nights. Earlier this year, Hyatt introduced milestone benefits. With this program, you receive various benefits after completing a certain number of nights at Hyatt properties.

If we were to just receive Globalist status through a challenge, that means we would not receive 4 Suite Upgrades which is one of my favorite benefits of the program. This is a huge perk for me since we are typically traveling with two little kids. I love the ability to confirm a suite well in advance and know that we will be staying in comfort. This avoids the anticipation during the check-in process. With these milestone benefits I’ll also earn a free night certificate at 30 nights (capped at a category 4 property) and a $100 Hyatt gift card at the 40 night mark. While earning Globalist status via a status match is great for some, the benefits that come along with earning it the hard way are definitely worth it for my family!

Receiving the Status Match

Right now, it seems like this is a very selective process and not available for the public. Although based on the terms, this offer recently become available on March 11th and will be valid through November 29th of this year. That means there is always the opportunity to receive the offer some way some how. If you happen to be staying a ton at a certain Hyatt property, it probably wouldn’t hurt to reach out to the sales manager at the hotel asking if there are any status match or challenge opportunities. Or, if you work for a large corporation that has a corporate rate with Hyatt, reach out to your HR department to see if they are aware of any matching programs.

Overall…

I am thrilled that my husband will have Explorist status this early in the year (since he is only at 13 nights thus far). The real benefit right now is that it will earn him an extra 20% bonus on all points earned for his business stays which can definitely add up quickly.

I am Bungvoy Titanium and asked for a match or challenge last week as we were planning a week at the Hyatt Ziva Cancun in April. No dice.

Five suite upgrades or four? Or, more correctly, two at top tier, as second top tier now gets two at 50 nights.

As I said, though, Globalist now only comes with TWO suite upgrades; you get two at 50 nights, which is the tier below.

Happy to hear of your story but how does this benefit the general travelling public if its clearly a very limited (if not one off to hubby) offer??

Staying 7 nights at Hyatt Regency in HK and they don’t seem interested in the promotion. They suggested I contact my “company’s” travel manager.

Hi, I just joined to status match with Hyatt and now I am trial term as Explorist, but rewards seem not very much. Just 20% bonus for Explorist, and 30% for Globalist. Also, only 2 lounge access after 20 nights stay for Explorist?
I am not deep knowledge about hotel loyalty program, but for example Hilton platinum status holder can access to lounge every time they stay in Hilton hotels.

I am interested in developing the status to Globalist because of free breakfast and lounge access, but if the condition is there for even Globalist, there is not much mean to get it. One guy who have Hilton gold or platinum status wrote in his blog that he receives upgrade of rooms for around 80-90%. I havent checked but bonus rate for stay is higher.
