IHG recently announced their yearly hotel re-categorization where about 700 hotels are changing their award prices. Originally, this change was to go into effect yesterday, but it looks like you actually have until January 24, 2019 to book IHG hotels at the current rate. All reservations booked prior to the change will still hold the lower point value even if the stay is not until a later date. However, if you change your reservation, you’ll be required to pay the higher amount in points.
I am not surprised by many of the changes, although I am happy to see that the Holiday Inn Resort in Aruba has not been affected. This property is still a gem in the award chart and a location where you can use your annual free night certificate from the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card.
Fortunately, for the hotels that are going up in the number of points required, it will only require another 5,000 points per night although this can still add up over time. So remember — make any known or speculative reservations now and cancel later. Just make sure to double check the cancelation terms.
Where will you be booking some IHG hotels?
